Business or Educational Ministry? A couple of years after we started holding educational classes we began to provide an organic produce coop as a service to those that contacted our ministry. The coop, along with other areas of the health ministry, quickly began to grow. As a busy, homeschool mom I knew that I needed help so we hired our daughter. With time we began to see that there was even more work than the two of us could process. Seeing a growing interest, we decided that it was time to expand and began to pray that the Lord would lead someone to us that could aid us in our vision of helping others. Part of our mission - as stated in our mission statement - is "To be a resource center offering education and tools that enhance a healthy lifestyle". As our vision expanded we started looking into offering additional educational and lifestyle tools including other health food items. We saw this as a way to encourage people towards a healthy lifestyle as well as a way to generate the funding needed to help pay staffing and other overhead involved with providing the services and educational opportunities that we offer. Because of our growth and expansion we began to have a "new look". As weeks passed and we continued getting new items in, we started looking more and more like a health food store. Our classroom now subbed as an area where shelving held new products. We began to have a steady flow of customers. Although we now may appear to look more like a business than an educational ministry, a heart to serve others is the focus of what we do. Our focus is not to "sell products". There are only two reasons we sell products 1) For the purpose of making available resources that we feel will enhance a healthy lifestyle. 2) To provide the financial means necessary to carry out the vision the Lord gives us, in His timing. It is our desire to have a servant's heart and we hope that this shines through above all else. We view the time we spend serving each person as unto the Lord. Our purpose for expansion has not been out of a desire for personal financial gain. Jim and I do not draw any form of compensation - monetarily or through receiving products - from Abundant Living. The time that we spend working in the store or educational ministry is donated. Although the Lord provides for our financial needs through Jim's work, we do have a staff of people that derive their income and financial support through the work that we do. The money that is made from the sale of products is used to pay bills, staffing & other overhead costs as well as to pay for the educational opportunities & other services that we offer. We hope that future profits can help us to expand into new areas - all focused at encouraging and educating others about healthy lifestyle choices. Partnering with Abundant Living We often have people to come to us and say that they appreciate our efforts and share our vision. Many have asked how they can help. Each time you purchase a product from our store -- Abundant Living Lifestyle Center and health Foods -- you are supporting Abundant Living Health Ministries and the vision that the Lord has given to us. There are many ways that you can partner with us at Abundant Living. 1) Prayer! Pray for us, the work that we are doing, and for the needs of those that God leads to us. At ALHM we believe that faith in God, expressing itself through prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, must be the foundation of all that we do. Anything done aside from this foundation will be unfruitful. 2) Shop with us! Whenever you have a need for items that we sell, please consider purchasing them from us. Purchases help to furnish the funding needed to provide the services and educational opportunities that we offer. Each and every purchase is greatly appreciated. 3) Tell others about our ministry, our health classes and seminars, as well as our store - Abundant Living Lifestyle Center & Health Foods - and encourage them to visit us. 4) Join us! Become a volunteer and donate your time to help us as we work to encourage and help others. We have a volunteer program that offers a discount on grocery items & organic produce for those that volunteer on a regular basis. 5) Financial donations. Some of our classes & seminars request a suggested donation from those that attend. These donations help us to cover the costs of putting on the event (including food prep or meals being offered). All donations, whether funds, tools or personal time help us fulfill what God has called us to do. If you feel that our ministry has been a blessing in your life, I ask you to consider supporting our efforts by thinking of us as a potential resource when purchasing products that we offer; by telling others about us; and by praying for us. If you feel led to help us further we hope you will consider donating time, funds or tools. We greatly appreciate receiving help in all of these areas and thank you for partnering with us to promote healthy living! Abundant Living Health Ministries. Inc.
