At Abundant Living Lifestyle Center and Health Foods we offer a wide range of classes and seminars.  Our culinary classes are always a big hit, as we prepare healthy and delicious recipes and allow class attendees to sample the foods that we have demonstrated making.  We also offer regular educational classes on a wide variety of health related topics. If you are planning to attend an upcoming class, please register as early as possible.  Registration is required for all classes.  Scheduled class dates and times are tentative. Some classes may require a minimum attendance.

Learn how to enjoy the benefits of Myofascial Release in your everyday life. Tips for self care will be shared that can help to reduce pain, increase flexibility and bring about stress relief on a regular basis as you practice these techniques in your own home.  In our myofascial stretching classes we target the releasing of tension from within the body, using various tools and techniques that soften and lengthen connective tissues.  This  is a monthly program series where we will look at a different self-treatment technique at each class, not a repeating class covering the same topic.  Class includes approximately 20 - 30 minutes of education on the fascial system and the remainder of the class will be technique training.


$10.00 per person (ask about discount for multiple people of the same household attending).


Introduction to Myofascial Stretching begins at 9:45
*Intro class required if you have never attended previously.

Pre-requisite: Attend the Introduction to Myofascial Stretching Program.  If you have not attended this class previously please meet at 9:45, prior to the regular class time. Some basic knowledge of the fascial system is required before beginning the techniques covered in the Myo-stretching classes.  It is only required that you attend this pre-requisite class segment once but you are welcome to attend it more often.  There is no additional charge for attending the Introduction class when attending along with a regular Myo-stretching class.

Childhood Vaccinations - Questions Every Parent Should Ask

Synopsis: Americans are among the most vaccinated people in the world.  In this important class we will look at questions that every parent should ask and consider before submitting their child[ren] to vaccinations.  Just a few of the questions we will propose and discuss:

  • What are the potential side effects of immunizations?
  • What is in a vaccine?

Toxin Free Home & Body

Registration Required: Yes

Synopsis: More than 70,00 new chemicals have been introduced since the 1950's.  Many of these chemicals have been implicated in the rise that we have seen in many diseases, including some forms of cancer and certain neurological problems. Unfortunately, some of these harmful substances are found as ingredients in many of the personal care and home care products found on grocery store shelves.  In some cases medicines are now applied to the skin and absorb into the body, having the same effect as if they are taken by mouth.  If the chemicals found in these medicines can be absorbed so readily, maybe we should think about what chemicals are found in the products that we commonly use on our skin.  Also, it has been reported that the air in our homes & offices is often many times more toxic than the air we breathe outdoors.  There are numerous, simple and often inexpensive ways that can begin to reduce our exposure to toxic chemicals.  The best place to start is in our own homes.  We hope that you will join us as we discuss this very important topic.

 

 

Healthy Pantry - Food Storage Class

Synopsis: Expanding your pantry into a healthy food storage program has a great many benefits.

  1. Buying items in bulk can save you money.
  2. In the event that bad weather keeps you "home-bound" it is not necessary to rush out to the store to buy staples since you already have them on hand.
  3. You become less vulnerable to increased food prices.  Since you have a back stock of items on hand, you are able to wait for better prices on the items that you are needing to purchase.
  4. With all the uncertainty in the economy and fluctuation in fuel prices, having an expanded pantry provides extra security and peace of mind.

 

Of course as always we encourage you to buy only healthy whole, foods and to rotate the items in your pantry.  Knowing which healthy foods store well and how long they can safely be store is important information when working to build an expanded pantry.  Join us for this special class as we discuss this topic.

Home Gardening 101:

Simple Methods For Growing Foods Naturally For the Beginner Gardener

Synopsis: You really can grow more food, in less space, using less of your time, regardless of your existing soil condition! In this class for the beginner gardener, our focus will be on using methods that reduce the time and space needed for growing food.  The methods that we will be presenting provide easy to implement solutions to the most common obstacles that often keep people from having a "home garden".

A great way for us to offset increasing prices while making wise use of our money and resources AND to remain committed to a healthy lifestyle - is to begin growing some of our own food.  Nothing can be fresher and healthier than the foods we have grown ourselves, picked ripe just before we are ready to eat.  Growing our own food also gives us control over what substances are used in the growing process, so we can minimize our contact with the pesticides and chemicals used in traditional growing methods.  Join us to see just how easy growing your own food can be!

Synopsis: After we began transitioning to a healthy, whole-foods diet, removing highly processed foods like sugar and chocolate etc, I began looking for some alternatives that I could provide for my children on special holidays like Christmas, Valentine's Day and Easter. During this fun class I will demonstrate making some of the wholesome candies and treats that became a tradition for us when my children were growing up [and now I make them for my grandchildren]. Some of the unique treats that we will demonstrate will be

The Abundant Living Lifestyle Seminar: Our Most Comprehensive Seminar

A Husband's Perspective

Synopsis: At this class Jim shares ideas about healthy eating and food preparation from a husband's perspective. Throughout the years, Jim supported me along my health journey as I sought to attain better health. He later decided to join me, giving it a three month trial ( anyone can do just about ANYTHING for three months he said.) And that was more than twelve years ago! Come hear how Jim makes this diet approach work for him in the "real world" and taste some of his favorite recipes.

Maximizing the Vegetarian Diet

Registration Required: Yes

Synopsis: The American Dietetic Association states that a vegetarian diet is associated with a lower risk of heart disease, lower levels of LDL cholesterol, lower blood pressure, lower rates of hypertension and type II diabetes, lower body mass index and lower overall cancer rates.  These are just a few of the many recognized benefits of following a plant-based diet.

In this important class we look at some of the many benefits of eating a plant-based diet.  We will also dig deeper as we investigate how to get the most out of a vegetarian diet by looking at the specific nutrients that are often questioned in the diet of vegetarians and discuss plant based food options that readily provide them. Vital nutrients can easily be provided through a healthy, whole-food, plant-based diet. If you are on a vegetarian diet, considering transitioning to a vegetarian diet, or just want to know which plant based foods provide specific nutrients, this would be a great class for you to attend.

 

STRESS SEMINAR

Synopsis: According to the American Institute of Stress, up to 90% of all health problems are related to stress. Long-term, chronic stress changes our body chemistry which can alter our state of health. While God certainly equipped our bodies with the tools needed to deal with stressful events ( especially those that are resolved within a relatively short period of time ), on-going unresolved stress overwhelms the body's systems which in time can begin to cause damage.

I have come to believe that stress has the potential to be the #1 assault against our health, and that it can cause more damage than virtually any other lifestyle habit. Shifting our stress response generally requires some fundamental changes in our belief system ( faith ) as well as changes in our focus and daily outlook. While it may not be an easy task, I believe that it is a vital part of our health and healing journey.  In this important seminar we will look at how to recognize the symptoms of stress and then discuss some helpful and practical tips that can be used to begin to improve your stress response.
